College Outreach helps us stay in contact with college students who are the sons and daughters of Temple Beth-El members. Our Sisterhood has funded this program at Temple Beth-El for many years. We send small gift packages, twice a year, at Hanukkah and at Purim or Passover, to the college students whose names and current addresses we have been provided. Hanukkah care packages that arrive around final exam time for most students are especially appreciated and include such items as instant chicken soup, hot chocolate packets, and token holiday gifts of small dreidels and chocolate gelt. Each package includes a message from our Sisterhood and Temple Beth-El clergy.
Some of these young people return to Providence after college graduation and join Temple Beth-El and others may move to other communities around the globe. Regardless, we want them to recognize that Temple Beth-El remembers and supports them, especially during their college years, as they transition from adolescence into adulthood.
Parents should contact the us at 401.331.6070 to provide their children’s latest email and college mailing addresses. As these addresses often change semester to semester or year to year, we can only provide these care packages if we have up-to-date addresses.
In addition, Temple Beth-El invites out-of-state students attending college in Rhode Island or Southeastern Massachusetts to join us at any of our services, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, as we hope other congregations will do the same for the sons and daughters of our synagogue’s family members. For High Holy Day services, we simply ask that students request a pass by contacting Executive Director Judy L. Moseley at 401.331.6070 or
firstname.lastname@example.org. Students may be asked to show a valid student I.D.
