Welcome back to TBE Live, our weekly email that gives you all of the most current information about what’s happening in our community. I hope the summer has provided a different rhythm; a time for slowing down, and perhaps a time for reflection and personal renewal. As the upcoming High Holy Days remind us, our transition to the more hectic pace of fall may feel a little sudden this year.
In addition to the usual August rituals of welcoming our children back from their adventures at camp, I will also remember this month as a time of personal transformation. I had cataract surgery on both eyes, and now, thanks to the miracle of modern medicine, I can see without my glasses. Suddenly, I can see the world in an entirely different light, filled with bright blues, greens, and purples. I can see raindrops falling in the air, and the hands of a clock across the room. Even though the objective world hasn’t changed at all, it feels as if I am experiencing it for the first time.
As the new year approaches, our tradition calls upon us to see the world with new eyes. This year, may our vision enable us to look within to discover our best selves. But may it also enable us to look beyond ourselves; to see our neighbors fully, and to work together towards a more just society. On behalf of Annie, Emilie, Judah, and Adi, may this year be a healthy, prosperous and peaceful one for us all. Shanah Tovah!
