Temple Beth-El’s Summer Celebration and 9th Annual Golf Tournament took place at Kirkbrae Country Club on Monday, July 23rd under bright blue skies. Over 100 golfers hit the links! Numbers are not final as of this writing, but Rick Granoff and Bob Greenbaum, chairs of the Golf Committee, announced that it appears our fundraising goals for 2018 have been met. Rick Cohen chaired the auction, securing more than 300 items for the silent auction and raffles. Coupled with an extravagant live auction and fund-a-need, in support of youth leadership, more funds were raised than in any previous year.
In addition to golf, the Summer Celebration included dozens of other participants in canasta and mah jongg. Card-room games were chaired by Lynn Glick, Rose Gergel, Betty Kotlen and Margi White. Lisa Brosofsky chaired the tennis event and kept the courts busy with sets of doubles enjoying the day and a tennis clinic with the club pro. Golfers and card and tennis players all came together for cocktails and dinner along with 50 additional people attending the evening festivities. Children enjoyed their own party with a day at the pool, golf lessons with Kirkbrae’s golf pro, specially prepared kid-friendly dinner, and a movie, all through the generosity of an anonymous donor .
Indeed the Temple Beth-El Summer Celebration has become both a major fundraiser and a way of bringing our congregation together for a mid-summer reunion. Monies raised from the Summer Celebration and Golf Tournament are directed to the Rabbi Leslie Yale Gutterman Religious School.
