This past weekend, I had the pleasure of accompanying fourteen of our PROVTY teens to the URJ Eisner Camp for NFTY Northeast’s Leadership Kallah. It was a weekend filled with prayer, singing, friends, and sessions about learning and honing leadership skills. It was a weekend filled with milestones: Naomi Shimberg finished her term as NFTY-NE’s Regional Religious & Cultural Vice President and led an amazing outdoor Shabbat service about trees. Sam Gessman was installed as NFTY-NE’s Regional NFTY Representative. Daniel Freedman and Daniel Shimberg (a.k.a. “The Dans”) won a Merri Award for “Most Creative Program”. PROVTY won a Merri Award for largest membership increase.
Temple Beth-El had more participants at the event than any other Temple Youth Group. I am constantly impressed by our teens here at Temple Beth-El; their kindness, their thoughtfulness and their enthusiasm just radiate out from them. Whether it was the last NFTY event of their high school years or their first event ever, the way in which they all jumped in and participated with such joy is an amazing thing to behold. I know we’re all looking forward to bringing a Regional NFTY event to our home turf in March – stay tuned to how you can help out and get involved! Despite coming home exhausted, cold and soggy I would not have wanted my weekend to go any other way. I know these leaders are all bound for great things and I am so proud to be a part of it.
